UPDATE: Almost 400 confirmed corona infections within 24 hours in Austria

29 August 2020 – In Austria, 395 new SARS-CoV-2 infections were detected by test within 24 hours. This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior on Saturday morning. The day before there had been 229 infections. So far, there have been 26,985 positive test results in Austria. As of Saturday morning, 22,866 patients throughout Austria have recovered and 733 people have died of Covid-19.

Currently 144 persons are in hospital treatment due to the coronavirus in Austria, 30 of them in intensive care units. In the federal capital Vienna, with slightly more than half of the SARS-CoV-2 infections registered within 24 hours in Austria (203 of 395; note), a total of 7,777 positive test results were registered by Saturday morning. The number of deaths related to the virus remained unchanged at 210. 5,841 persons recovered, the Vienna authorities announced Saturday morning.

“Vienna continues to pursue a strict testing strategy. Last week, an average of 3,565 tests were performed in Vienna every day”, a mailing stated. In a seven-day comparison per 100,000 inhabitants, Vienna was behind Wels (53.5), Innsbruck (44.7) and Kufstein (42.9) in terms of the number of people who tested positive with 39.5.

The current Austrian figures with 395 new infections within 24 hours are significantly higher than in Germany, which is ten times larger. In Germany, 1,479 infections were officially reported nationwide.
